One Man’s Adventure in Figuring Things Out (and some friends)
Imagine if life had a cheat sheet. From an early age when I was asked to do things or left to my own devices, I was constantly coming to the conclusion that “There has to be a better way”. As it turns out, sometimes there was – and I just didn’t know. The content I will be presenting here will advice for those that need it based on the time in my life that I wish I knew it.
One is poor sample size. I will do my best to include content from others in the same style. I’m not in the business of telling people what to do or how to precisely live their lives. Conversely and looking back at my own life, I made a lot of decisions with sub-optimal levels of information and missed out on opportunities to save myself time, money, grief or all the above.
Topics will be covered in two ways. For people that need a quick answer, the posts will hit the topic and immediately dive in to What-You-Need-to-Know, “WYNK” so to speak. Be sure to filter by topic, then tag depending on how much time you have to indulge in some reading.
WYNK
These more concise posts are intended to help people make quick decisions better than flying in blind.
I’ll do my best to keep the format below:
Topic Name
- When I wish I knew it tag.
- Circumstances to which it applies.
- What information would have been useful in the decision making
- What implications the decision might have – negative outcomes from poor information.
Best Practices
Topics marked Best Practices may not be industry tested and peer reviewed, but are methods for handling things that I have found keep me from pulling my hair out.
Life is more complicated than it was years ago.
Anecdotes
I have met a lot of people over the years that have shared stories in conjunction with the advice that they have given. Good advice helpful or guiding, but have you ever wondered how someone learned it. People make a lot of mistakes and sometimes the stories are insightful or amusing.
